Lapland

Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen uniikit lappi

The sculpture "Lapland" brought Finnish nature to the exhibition in Shanghai. In winter the clean snow covers the ground and the trees. The water crystallizes to ice similar to glass, the wind builds snow drifts. "Lapland" describes the scenery of Lapland where snow covers everything. In the sculpture the grey land is covered by silver sparkles inside the glass. The glacier above the sculpture is carved by hand as traces to the surface of the glass. The traces are then broken with chisel and hammer part by part. In the end the surface is brushed and polished. The shining transparent surfaces are polished flat from both sides.

The sculpture is created in Italy, Murano in co-operation with Maestro Mariano Moro and his team in Spring 2017.
